Yup, it is that simple. Shop at Wal-Mart, log-on, and save: Wal-Mart will do the comparison shopping for you and return the difference. Wal-Mart will also tell you which stores are they going to compare their prices from and it is a pretty good list! It is still in beta, and therefore available in selected markets.
What is covered? CBS reports that, “(this app) compares its prices on 80,000 food and household products — from canned beans to dishwashing soap — with those of its competitors.” It only covers the purchases in the Wal-Mart stores and not purchases made online.
Quoting from CBS report, Wal-Mart spokeswoman Molly Blakeman said, “You can think of the app as a post-purchase ad match. We are really making it easy in that you don’t have to look through those circulars anymore, you don’t have to know what’s on sale at another retailer”.
One of a kind so far in consumer retail, this is really designed to further strengthen their position as the low-cost leader. Since the initiative to log-on and compare remains on the consumer, it not only promotes consumer involvement, but simultaneously provides them with the confidence that they are getting the best deal – without the work!
Will it eventually be expanded to online purchases? My guess: It is only a matter of time!
